A fisherman who illegally sold 69 grey mullet fish has been sentenced to 400 hours of community service, MPI Fisheries Northland said in a Facebook post.
Ray Sepania Lafaelle Pereira appeared before the Manukau District on 16 June 2020 for sentencing where he pleaded guilty to three charges related to illegal sales of grey mullet fish, excess fish, and netting offences that occurred during 2018 at the end of Ihumata Road, Mangere South Auckland.

“Ray Pereira has received the maximum amount of community work the Court can enforce,” said MPI regional fisheries compliance manager Western North Island, Andre Espinoza.
“This sentence sends a strong message to others involved in similar activities along our coasts that black market fish dealing by recreational fishers will not be tolerated.”
